Week 1 was tough. Day 1, I knew the rest of the week would change my body. In fact, this entire workout would change my body. I already feel tight in areas like my chest and core. I can’t say it enough, that my core feels different. When working out, I actually now feel like I’m using my muscles instead of cheating with other parts of my body. Granted this doesn’t mean that I can finish all of the workouts.

My abs are starting to feel better. Doing the P90X Ab Ripper 3 times this week has taken it’s toll. Granted, I haven’t been able to keep up with them on the video. I still can’t do all of the ab exercises. I feel like my belly is keeping me from doing some. Heck, reaching up in the air and touching my toes, my stomache gets in the way. It almost feels like I have to work around it.

My wife and friends are asking about it. I guess it’s because the typical new years resolution conversation usually involves working out.

I actually went to the gym on stretching day and ran for 10 minutes, the elliptical for 10 minutes, some hanging chair raises and some heavy weight dumbbell presses (70 lbs). I felt pretty good. One thing that dawned on me as I walked through the gym is that I may have been a little naive about my past workouts. Lifting weights probably started as a compliment to regular sports training. But, somehow we’ve converted it to the main workout. I now see what I’ve been missing. I’m getting an entirely new workout that pushes my entire body, not just certain areas. For example, on a typical leg workout, I’d do squats, leg extensions and curls, that would be it. But, this didn’t do anything for movements to the sides. P09X helps me with moving to the side, backwards, forwards, and even up in the air.

Weight, that’s the big thing. I’ve actually gained a pound since I started. But, my body looks different. I blame the 1 pound on the creatine. Each time in the past I use creatine, I gain at least 2 pounds. So, I feel like I’m actually on target. At least, my body feels like it.

While reviewing the workout, I still have to admit that it’s excellent for many individuals. Here are some examples:

  • Working dads – I can do this workout at night when the kids are in bed. The kids even joined me for the stretching workout. It’s interesting to see how they can easily do the stretches. I figure I save at least 15-30 minutes of preparation time and driving back and forth from the gym, giving myself that extra time with my family. It also allows me to work overtime and still have time to workout and see the family.
  • Stay at home moms – It’s in the privacy of your own home. No one else can see you work out. Plus, there is a woman in every one of these videos. In most of the videos, the women were actually graduates of the program. That’s what got them on the video.
  • Teens and teenagers – When I was a teen, I had no idea what to do. I didn’t have a gym membership, so it wasn’t an option. So, unless you played a sport, what did you do. Here, you can do this at home and gain muscle, a ton. Being a teen was tough, it seemed it was all about looks. I would imagine doing this for just an hour a day would give anyone a boost up on the popularity ladder.
  • Handicapped individuals – I don’t know if it would help in all conditions. But, in one video, there is an individual with a prosthetic leg… And, I couldn’t keep up with him.

So, what are you waiting for, go out and get P90X. It’s changing me. Heck, it’s 11PM and I still have energy.
